18 NOv 2008Why is it so hard to reach out?

Exhibition Why is it so hard to reach out? together with artist Stina Östberg at el Museo de la Ciudad de Querétaro in Mexico. In the exhibition we will show works dealing with public space. The works shown in the exhibition have been produced during a three month residency in Mexico.Opening of the exhibition is the 28 November 8 pm. (28 November – 7 January)
THE WORKS!

Why is it so hard to reach out? #1 An 8 meter long banner placed on the border between Mexico and USA. United States-Mexico border (better known in Tijuana as El bordo or La linea) is a huge steel barrier designated to prevent illegal immigration into the US and it’s strategically placed along the 3,141 km of border between the two countries.

El nies in spanish is a sexual term for the space in between the genitals and the anus. The expression is also used to describe something that is in between, something not defined, something that is nothing. The banner was hung on the Mexican side of the border just by the highway outside the international airport in Tijuana the 9th of October, 2008.

WALL PAINTINGS

Orderd from a man who normally paint add’s in the streets. Four paintings can be seen around the Centro Historico of the city of Querétaro and one painting will appear in the museum during the exhibition.

Why is it so hard to reach out ? #3

Why is it so hard to reach out ?#4 (text: this is not an add)

Why is it so hard to reach out ? #2 (text:art-piece inspired by Metallica, Museo de la Ciudad de Querétaro, 28 Nov, free)
TEXTILES
Textiles ordered from indigenous women that sell and make their weaving crafts in the streets of Querétaro, Mexico. The pieces have the same patterns and designs from the textiles these women make and sell in the streets but with the difference that these textiles have famous band-names like Metallica and Kiss embroidered in them.

These specific traditional textiles are what tourists in Mexico commonly bring back to their countries as souvenirs from their trip and the people selling them are often described as a picturesque-exotic element to view as you stroll around streets and markets.

12 Oct Bienvenidos a Tijuana!

I was with the visual artists Stina Östberg in the border city of Tijuana producing an art-piece for our upcoming exhibition ” Why is it so hard to reach out?” .For this work, we used the U.S-Mexico border, to produce a public piece that which documentation will be shown at El Museo de la Ciudad de Querétaro this 28th of November 2008.

United States-Mexico border -better known in Tijuana as ” El bordo” or ” La linea”- is a huge steel wall or barrier designated to prevent illegal immigration and drug smuggling into the US. It is strategically placed along the 3,141 km of border between Mexico and the US, and it’s also a characteristic aesthetic of almost all the Mexican border cities with the USA.

If you want to see our piece, don’t miss our exhibition in the City of Quereatro! Meanwhile, take a look to some of the photos we took on our trip, and the links to 6 of our recommendations from Tijuana!

  1. Salon de Baile la Estrella.
  2. El dandy Del Sur.
  3. The statue from The Colonia Libertad.
  4. Playas de Tijuana.
  5. Murcof.
